"Arab spring" comes to fruition: Tunisia's draft constitution may ban ties with Israel
Tunisia is struggling to map out its post-revolutionary future, but early signs indicate the diminutive Mediterranean state may be falling short of hopes it could serve as a regional model for good governance.
In October, Tunisians will elect a new government and choose whether to adopt a presidential or parliamentary system. But a constitutional draft completed earlier this month expressly prohibits normalization of ties with Israel, while upholding support of the Palestinians as state policy and enshrining Islam as the country's official religion. J Street Defends Anti-Israel Congresswoman
Rep. Lynn Woolsey, the congresswoman who joined in an anti-Israel chant during a Code Pink event last Sunday, has been denounced by Jewish groups across the political spectrum – with one notable exception. The activist organization J Street, whose PAC endorses Woolsey and contributed financially to her 2010 campaign, actually defended the congresswoman in a statement to the Washington Jewish Week: Read more >>

No apology
Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman locked horns with his Turkish counterpart on Wednesday over the issue of an Israeli apology for the Mavi Marmara affair, with Lieberman saying an apology was not in the offing, and Ahmet Davutoglu demanding it as a condition for a resumption of normal ties.
“As far as we’re concerned, there is no reason to apologize,” Lieberman said in a meeting of the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee meeting on Wednesday. “Turkey wants to give the impression that they can dictate terms, and we’ll accept them as if they’re a superpower. It’s a matter of honor to them.” Read more >>

Palestinian leadership praises Spain's parliament
The Palestinian leadership on Saturday praised Spain's parliament for recommending its government to recognize the Palestinian state if peace talks with Israel did not resume.
'This is a step in the right direction,' said Saeb Erekat, a Palestinian negotiator. He called on the Spanish government to vote for the Palestinians when they seek the UN recognition on statehood in September. Read more >>

Europeans will never forgive the Jews for Auschwitz
Israelis to whom I spoke during a recent visit there all said the same thing: the Muslim world is a proven enemy, but they are now facing a second enemy that shows more and more its true face: the European Union and its main members.
The European Union, France, the UK, and some other European countries -- Spain for example -- are not only the scene of rising anti-Semitism; they also behave as if one of their primary objectives now is the demonization and destruction of Israel.
European boats will apparently join the pro-Hamas flotilla, should it sail. Boycotts against Israeli products -- most recently and conspicuously in Scotland -- Israeli scientists, Israeli books and Israeli movies are being organized over the continent. Read more >>

Only in France ... 'The antisemite', the first popular comedy about the Holocaust.
The film poster shows French comic actor Dieudonné, dressed in military uniform and hilarious, feeding a tiny portion of food [is it food?] to a hungry man dressed as a concentration camp prisoner begging for something to eat. The subtitle of the film refers to "the first popular comedy about the Holocaust". According to the poster, the film has been preemptively banned from cinemas and video outlets in France. It will be sold through Dieudonné's website. Read more >>

How Four Influential Socialist Anti-Semites Shaped the Left1. Karl Marx
“What is the worldly religion of the Jew? Huckstering. What is his worldly God? Money. Money is the jealous god of Israel, in the face of which no other god may exist… The god of the Jews has become secularized and has become the god of the world.”
Marx’s influence on the socialist movement and its various streams cannot be underestimated, and neither can the extent to which his view of Jews as the embodiment of capitalism became embedded on the left.
In a handful of sentences, Marx depicted Jews as the anti-thesis of Socialism, a theme that he was to repeatedly revisit, and more poisonously in such essays as “The Russian Loan”, where he implicitly suggested that war would continue for as long as the Jews existed. Read more >>
